Tres Amigos, Riviera Maya

Tres Amigos

We were at a resort in Riviera Maya – near Cancun Mexico, in 2010.  And the resort had numerous ethnic restaurants, as resorts tend to have.  This was in the Mexican restaurant (really – there were others, Thai, Japanese, etc).  And in each restaurant, the staff is dressed in the garb of the country whose food they serve.  So these guys in the sombreros strolled around from table to table.  I took a picture.

I’m so happy people tell me they see those expressions.  I put everything into conveying the feeling of the moment – each portrait, a different pose, a different feeling.

In my mind I “graduated” with this painting.  It’s tricky, painting people you know and love.  My wife came out so beautiful – she loves it by the way.  Previous attempts to paint her were nowhere this accurate. Anybody could recognize her from the likeness.
